New York – Sen. Schumer Continues To Remain Mum About Ground Zero Mosque

    8

New York – U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), usually one of the most voluble lawmakers on any topic in the country, continued to maintain his silence on the controversy surrounding ground zero mosque during a stop on Staten Island yesterday.

Schumer yesterday ducked questions about the mosque after an appearance in the Hilton Garden Inn, Bloomfield.

Schumer, whose spokeswoman said he is “not unopposed” to the current site, brushed past an Staten Island Advance reporter seeking clarification.

He also declined to comment on a claim by one of his Republican opponents, Gary Bernsten, that the mosque will be a “magnet for fundamentalists to prepare more attacks on Lower Manhattan.”

He is always silent when he is supposed to speak up he was silent when Obama treated Netanyahu with disrespect at the white house and now at the ground zero mosque… what is he afraid of??/ to tell the truth??/

Think for a moment. Schumer’s position on the mosque will have no bearing at all on what happens to the mosque or to ground zero. His opinion does not matter in that sense. However, in such a volatile and controversial issue, anything he says will be considered offensive by proponents of the opposite position. And that will cost him votes. Schumer is less elected official, and more politician. He wants to hold the power he has, and is not about to damage his reputation with any statement about this hot topic.

On the other hand, our perceptions of our elected officials are to some degree based on their opinions on issues that matter to us. He owes us that information. Maybe his silence is enough reason to look for a successor.

This is news, indeed. Sen. Charles Schumer, who would shout from every hilltop and every valley, from every mike and to anyone, willing to listen or not, should be silent. He gives new meaning to the adage; His “Silence is Deafening”!
