Berlin – John Demjanjuk’s attorney says a report on the U.S. Department of Justice’s Nazi-hunting unit could help get his client freed.

The New York Times obtained a copy of the internal government report on the Office of Special Investigations and posted it on its website last weekend. Demjanjuk faces 28,060 counts of accessory to murder for allegedly having been a guard at Sobibor. He denies ever having been a guard anywhere.
He was previously convicted in Jerusalem of being a guard at Treblinka — but the Israeli Supreme Court overturned the ruling as a case of mistaken identity.
But the report says the Israeli court found Demjanjuk served at Sobibor. His attorney says he should get credit for his years behind bars in Israel and be released as his trial continues.
