Israel – Yishai: PM Promised IDF Conversion Bill Would Not Advance

    Israel – Interior Minister Eli Yishai said that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday promised him that the IDF Conversion Bill will not move beyond the debate on the measure being held in the Knesset’s House Committee, Army Radio reported.

    The bill has caused tension in the coalition with Israel Beiteinu threatening to boycott Wednesday’s budget vote if the bill is not discussed and the Haredi parties threatening to leave the coalition if the bill is advanced.

    Army Radio quoted Likud officials as saying United Torah Judaism would leave the coalition some time this week because of their objections to the bill.

    What’s IDF Coversion Bill? What do proponents want IDF to be converted to? (I looked up the original article in JP, it doesn’t tell you any more than this one at VIN.
