In this photo provided by the mayor's office, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, left, and Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty, second from right, hold a news conference Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 in the Bronx borough of New York, to update New Yorkers about the city's snow-removal efforts following Sunday's blizzard. Commissioner Doherty vowed that most streets would be plowed by Wednesday evening, with every last one done by Thursday morning. (AP Photo/Office of the Mayor, Samantha Modell)Brooklyn, NY – Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) called on his constituents to call his office at 718.853.9616 and report whether their streets have been plowed or not. Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner Doherty had pledged to have all streets cleaned by 7:00 am this morning only to have many people wake up with nothing done last night.

“I expect that we will have every street in New York City plowed. Will somebody find a street I missed? Maybe,” Mayor Bloomberg said. “This is the best Sanitation Commissioner this city has ever had,” Bloomberg said, adding the “city is lucky to have him.” “What is going on in the city of New York?” Hikind asked. “Another day, another promise broken,” Hikind said.

“This lack of service and accountability cannot go unanswered,” Hikind noted. “People’s safety comes first. We need to ensure that proper emergency response services return to normal immediately. Please let my office know if your street has not been plowed once and we will get the list to the appropriate people and get you the results you deserve.”

Just let it melt naturally over the next few days when the whether will be warmer. At this point, let the kids enjoy the snow and a week off from school.

In case Bloomberg is unaware, New York is in the crosshairs of terrorists. As one of largest population centers of the world, and act of terror can affect the greatest number of people, exactly what the organizations and governments of terror seek. If we do not have perfection or the closest to it, those watching will just drool with delight when they contemplate their choice of location for their next barbaric and cruel act.

It is unacceptable that there is such gross irresponsibility in the emergency response system. I’m no expert in government, but the one at the top must take the blame, and must accept personal responsibility for all the consequences. May the entire population of NYC merit leadership who are competent, love new Yorkers, and deserve (earn) the authority and power they have.

This failure was colossal, and the mayor is 100% at fault. No more excuses or blame pointed elsewhere. We can’t risk this nonsense.

The Mayor’s statements become more ridiculous as time goes on. The snow stopped falling early Monday morning. The Sanitation Commissioner promises to have all streets cleared by Thursday morning. First, this must be some new definition of the word cleared. I don’t know if you drove anywhere in Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island this morning but clear is not a term anyone would use to describe the condition of the streets. Second, isn’t three days and nights kind of a long time to clear the streets? Never took this long in the past with comparable amounts of snowfall. But more importantly, if this disastrous response is not the fault of the “best Sanitation Commissioner the city has ever had” I guess it must be the fault of the “clearly not best mayor the city has ever had”.

Answer: When two plows come down your street acting like they’re plowing, but their plows are just too high to actually plow the snow.

I never looked into the sanitation department, but I’m just wondering how bad the previos sanitation commisionars where, that the current one is the best that NYC ever had….
