“I am upset that the city has decided to re-implement street cleaning regulations. Throughout my district, snow banks are still piled high and ice lines many of the streets and sidewalks. It is both unsafe and unreasonable to ask drivers to attempt to move their cars while streets are still covered with snow. In fact, I have received numerous phone calls from worried constituents who cannot move their cars due to snow banks. I ask the city to re-examine the streets in all boroughs before deciding to enforce parking regulations,” Councilmember Levin said.

Councilmember Levin represents the neighborhoods of Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, Boerum Hill, and Gowanus.

Todays cleaning enforcement was so stupid …First of all we all know u can not sweep streets with snow all over the place and cars had to double park to avoid getting ticketed causing drivers to stay on the right or left side of the street which was still piled with snow causing cars to climb over those patches of ice causing the vechile to skid back into the street and causing many dents and damage to the double parked cars….Mr. Bloomie probably got his revenue from ticket blitz but again we citizens are the ones who have to suffer…

Instead of sending out the Sanitation Street troops to ticket vehicles, hand those obnoxious overweight enforcement agents shovels to help return the city to normal. It would be a greater service to the city and help improve business and traffic flow.

Are we surprised? The alternate side restrictions has nothing to do with street cleaning. Bloomberg bases his sanity on insuring that he can send his brownies and agents to make criminals out of every motorist in NYC. It’s delusional. No one will ever succeed in talking him out of it. An “einredenish” is erger vi a “krenk”.

I figured it out. Bloomie is jealous that all the monies paid to own a car go to the state. Registration, taxes on fuel, tolls, all bypass the city coffers. All he can do is make anywhere you put your car illegal, then place penalties and fines all over it. It’s beyond greed. It is psychotic. I promise never to vote for Bloomberg, or any other candidate that supports him.

On my block there are huge piles of hard ice. I watched the garbage truck with a plow drive by today to clean the snow and ice. Of course it accomplished nothing because the ice is solid. Right behind it was a salt spreader truck. I must live in chelm where a shovel comes before the salt. Basically nothing was accomplished, AGAIN!

“I have received numerous phone calls from worried constituents who cannot move their cars due to snow banks.”

How are you expecting them to clear the snow if the cars are always in the way? you gotta start somewhere…

What do these people want? to be able to keep their cars in the same spot without moving them until the snow melts?

We don’t have snow piles, we have ice piles, mountains actually!! They really ought to put some salt on them because when it snows tomorrow night, people will fall and be able to sue the city for not cleaning. Part of the snow not cleaned is the city’s property. I forgot, SALT costs money!! Penny wise pound foolish!!

Can someone tell me why alternate parking on the Streets are 90 minutes and on the Avenues only 30 minutes ?
I will tell u , cuz on de Avenues there are Meters and after 30 minutes Bloomy makes money from the Meters on the Streets the longer there is no parking the longer he could give tickets even the sweeper is long gone (btw the sweeper go so fast they drop more garbage then sweep up)

The discussion about how to plow & salt or salt & plow is not the topic here. Nor are most of us readers competent to give opinions. The issue is whether there is any morality to ticketing cars for alternate sides parking regulations which are intended to facilitate street cleaning – when the ice mountains render that impossible. Oops, I forgot. The ticketing has NOTHING to do with street cleaning. It is just Bloomberg taxing us by making owning a car impossible. Bloomie: Stop making us criminals with your political greed. ENOUGH.

It is outright abuse of power. If there is no viable plan for actual street cleaning, then street cleaning rules should not be in effect. Simply making senseless decisions that effects the constituents is arbitrary, obnoxious and an abuse on the people that put him into office. Revenue can not be the only reason to restrict parking.

Any other northern city enforces it’s alternate side regulations so that the plows can clear the streets for their full width. With cars parked how is sanitation supposed to clear the snow banks. Todays effort during the 1 1/2 hour alternate side parking time was too little too late since the snow has turned to ice, impervious to garbage trucks with plows.

At this point, whatever snow is out there is really hard-packed ice that will not be removed and will have to melt. With another storm coming later this week, its important they get the opportunity to do whatever cleaning they can.

Yeah sure like the city is really going to make you move so they can plow your parking spots for you. It’s a dream world. Those sweepers can’t get over a speed bump and it’s hard for me to believe that any leaves managed to pile up under the mounds of ice. It’s money money money and they aren’t getting mine since I moved it like 6 blocks away. Thanks for the pointless suffering. One day hashem will rid the world of alternate side because both sides are good.

There are 8 million people packed into an area and of those 8 million there are, for argument sake, about 6 million vehicles of one type or another. People park on the streets because most don’t have (legal) driveways. So when it snows where are the cars supposed to go? Its not possible to get curb to curb cleaning.

If anyone has any good ideas of how to efficiently remove the snow, please be in touch with the city as I am sure they would like ideas too.

People need to dig their cars out from a storm on 12/25? If they haven’t driven their car in two weeks why do they even own it?

Alternate side parking is for street cleaning. Anybody see a street cleaner in their neighborhood this week?
