Israel – Rabbi Aharon Shteinman, head of the Lithuanian Orthodox yeshivot, has warned his students that he and his educational staff will not attend the wedding of any student caught with a cellular phone inside the yeshiva.

According to a haredi source, the new regulation was not adopted by all yeshivot. “The regulation isn’t being applied by the two biggest ones – Ponevezh and Hebron – due to the parents’ difficulty to locate their sons through a public phone, so in those yeshivot a cell phone is permissible.”
The same source noted that the regulation is directed mainly at engaged yeshiva students, who are busy planning their weddings while using their cell phones freely on the premises, prompting their friends to do the same.
“The yeshiva heads cannot threaten to expel an engaged guy from the institute because he is undeterred by such threats at this stage of his life. Therefore, they have decided to threaten them with the sanction of ordering the yeshiva’s spiritual staff not to attend the wedding.”
The decision has already been implemented by the Orchot Torah Yeshiva, which has more than 500 students.

Lack of respect for our Rabbonim. Can you even imagine a Yeshiva head telling a Bochur not to do something and he ignores it? What is going on? What good is their learning?
So the learning is all a shpiel to get engaged to a “good girl”?

Forget the phones. The cost of weddings can be reduced if the rabbis refused to attend any wedding costing more than one thousand dollars. But that will never happen, guess why ?
I don’t have a cell phone and I survive quite well. In fact, probably better than those that do. I am much happier and more relaxed. Now, let me go check when Verizon gets the iPhone. Yippee!

Of course if the bochurs parents have a lot of money the rosh yeshivos will kinda not even see the cellphone in the 1st place. wake up rabbis. cellphones are reality. at least chazal understood the concept that you can’t make a gezeira that rov tzibur won’t hold. that in itself denigrates daas torah. is it better to stand in line for a half hour, wasting torah time? that’s what bochurim did when i was in yeshiva.
Now all we have to do is teach these young men a skill set so they will be able to earn a living & support a family, and not have their hand out to their parents & in-laws.No where is it written that you can not work and learn.It is time that we stopped raiing a generation of “Darmuzyadiks” a Poloishe vort for people who eat for nothing!
No one here seems to understand what this is all about, plain and simple, when in the Yeshiva during learning sessions the students are supposed to be using their time to learn, instead of learning they are making wedding arrangements which is the job of their parents or which should be done during not learning hours. Imagine if these students held jobs and did this during work hours, they would get fired. Expulsion from Yeshiva is not an option they are leaving anyhow so the Rosh Yeshiva threatens not to attend which is a slap in the face.
While they are busy trying to motivate the students to learn in a proper manner, they should use the same threat on students who smoke in the Yeshiva and rent cars during the semester.

It’s gone too far now. Phones have their use and can easily be turned off when a bachur is learning.

Now we will be able to give kibbudim to our family and friends not the “spiritual staff” who always demand the choicest kibbudim, the Rosh Yeshiva/Mashgiach will only come if he gets siddur kiddushin/krias kesuba/bracha achrita etc., then turn up hours late without a care in the world for any one else.
