Jerusalem – One in three Israelis will get cancer: 40% of Israeli Jewish men, a third of Jewish women, a third of Israeli-Arab men, and a quarter of Israeli-Arab women will get cancer, the Ministry of Health and the Israel Cancer Association announced today to mark International Cancer Day on February 4.

“In Israel, 28,000 new cancer patients are diagnosed annually, and 11,000 people die of the disease,” states the report. The Cancer Association warned that, without immediate measures to fight the disease, cancer rates could rise by 80%, especially among the poor and middle class.

“The objective of World Cancer Day is to raise awareness of the need to intensify the global struggle against cancer, and to get this message to citizens in Israel and across the world: it is possible to halve the morbidity rate,” said Cancer Association president Miri Ziv.

This should be no surprise to anyone who has been to Israel. It seems that everyone there smokes.

    Fuzzy math!

    1 in 3 will get cancer…
    Now 28,000 are diagnosed annually..

    Why not 250,000?

    Question #2 :

Why are Poor people more prone to get cancer?

    Utter nonsense.

Because they use insurance statistics, this probably includes the many Israelis who will get non-invasive forms of skin cancer due to sun exposure. Since much of that is treated with expensive fluorouracil gel, it has to be reported as cancer in order that the gel RX is approved by Kupat Cholim. Actually BH such cancers are easier to treat than severe acne or psoriasis, and while they often recur they are just nuisances if caught in time.

there is much abuse of chemical crop spraying and abuse of the inviornment.the country is realtivly new and the race to get “there”($) is a part of the mentality.i must say there seems to be improvement as well.although we don’t as yet have a “clean” river in the whole land as yet steps have been taken to improve the quality of the rivers.you must fight against intrests as manufacturres and municipalities dump there waste into rivers and the treatment plants cost big money to implement.the powers that be will always complain they don’t have the money to do the cleanup without going out of bussiness.to quote a line of a song “its a never ending battle for a piece thats always torn.the invionment is held on a back burner here due to the problem of securety but even the members of knesset live inside biosphere.
