(Reuters file photo)Albany, NY – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg warns that Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed state budget will cut city funding by more than $2 billion, trigger thousands of layoffs and force cutbacks that include closing a third of senior centers if it isn’t changed by the Legislature.

Cuomo puts the cut at about $1 billion.

Bloomberg told lawmakers at a hearing Monday that they can legislate relief from state mandates that would ease the impact of inevitable cuts.

He called again for legislation to allow principals to lay off as many 6,000 teachers based on merit and performance, rather than strictly by who’s most senior. Otherwise, Bloomberg says, all schools will face a “merry-go-round” of lost teachers and replacements as well as the loss of motivated younger educators.

Once again the Mayor is involved in doulble speak…

Just a few short months ago, Mayor Bloomberg endorsed now Governor Cuomo for the position, extoling his fiscal promises and policies. Now Cuomo is the worst thing for New York city.

But don’t worry Bloomberg has plans in the works to close the budget gap. Increased meter rates, congestion pricing (yes it’s back), Tax on soft drinks and soda, and raise city taxes…oh and by the way he’s grooming Kathie Black to be the next Mayor…

Bloomberg raised real estate taxes relentlessly while in office, while cutting back on emergency serivces like fire stations, etc. But no, he knows about who will be good or bad………just ask the old widow on a fixed income, whose real estate taxes quadrupled so she can’t pay them, and who has to wait 30 mins for an ambulance.

Let Bloomie begin HIS AUSTERITY program, by cutting all waste, repaying the city for his AZ gun bebacle, wasteful spending, salaries, Begin firing and clawing back excessive payroll paymenst, toss ILLEGALS off the welfare rolls, etc.
There is plenty of room for the city to cut its budgers in every catagory. .

Close senior centers – typical political behaviors, find the most popular programs and cut those. How about saving money by stopping the advertizing campaigns for healthier eating and stopping smoking, and don’t take 311 calls on those issues, stop building bike lanes and redoing the city streets all over the place.
