Entergy’s vice president, John McCann, told Westchester County legislators on Monday that the earthquake in Japan was much more powerful than any recorded in the region of Indian Point.
McCann said he expected changes to be made in response to the events in Japan, but he didn’t say what they would be.
Entergy on Monday took out a one-page ad in The New York Times reassuring the public that the facility is designed to withstand the strongest earthquake anticipated in the area.
The plant is located in Buchanan, N.Y., 35 miles north of New York City.
What do you expect him to say, that it’s dangerous?
Would anyone expect him to say it’s not and put his company out of business.
Until an accident happens, everything is safe! An ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure.
He is an honorable man and would not say somthing he knew was not truthful.
It can handle any earthrquake that is “expected.” What about if it is more powerful than “expected”, just as there were much bigger snow storms than could have been expected? Records are broken all the time.
Except this time, if and when the earthquake record is broken in NY, it won’t be one or two lives due to delayed medical response as was the case with the unexpectedly large snowsotrms; it jeopardizes 21,000,000 people that reside within a 50 mile radius.
TWENTY ONE MILLION PEOPLE!!
This aging facility needs to be shut down immediately and moved upstate to a low density area.
Whew! I feel much better now.
