Among the proposals is an agreement with Craigslist that allows tenants to learn more about any landlord’s portfolio.

The New York Times reports that a link on the site, “NYC’s Worst Landlords Watchlist,” with the help of Google Maps, will list landlords with the worst inspection records.

The package, to be announced Monday, also includes a proposal that would deprive landlords with questionable records of certain taxpayer subsidies.

Not all the proposals are intended to punish landlords. The Times says one would help landlords get access to capital so they could repair shoddy buildings more quickly. Another would cut red tape in the certification and inspection process.

I don’t know how it will be measured who is the worst landlord, but if they will measure it based on tenants complaints, the worst landlords will be located in the upper west side of Manhattan, the tenants there are a bunch of kvetches with rent stabilized apartments and nothing to do a whole day so they complain about anything and everything.

just another way to punish people just cause “I hate him!” Till now, the way to settle grievances was through our court system. Now, we became sooo envious of people earning an ounce of money, that we are going after them in every way possible! landlords hate law, (which imho is an appropriate name for this law), currently at discussion, is cause they are number 10 on the list. It starts with contractors (more violations, better revenue, in the name of safety), goes to accountants with extra licenses, regulations, extra years of school in the name of protecting from fraudlaulent accountants), stops on the way at retailers with more control of their import licenses, taxes, time and money consuming audits. and it doesn’t stop there. ask every profession if working and earning money in ny has become only undoable or a full nightmare! Hatsad hashuve, they all bilk every penny from anybody with one in their pocket, while killing their businesses. (btw, the only place worth working for today, is for unions! they’re free from all headaches. they pass all on to the business owner as long as he’s alive and has a ounce of blood left)

Public Advocate is a job that should be eliminated. Bill De Blasio does nothing for the people so he comes up again and again with this worst landlord list to gain support from the 1,000,000 rent stabilized tenants. First it was on the internet now on craigslist, hey bill get a real job & maybe do something real for the people. Maybe perhaps come up with the citys worst Tenants. The ones who dont pay their rent & the ones who ruin the apartment & buildings, or the ones who sell drugs.

There’s nothing to love about landlords who rack up huge fines and violations. People are charging rent for apartments ridden with vermin and lacking in water and heat. I don’t see why they should get away with it.

it’s certainly not hard to tell which commenters are landlords and which are tenants.

And for all you big complainers about the big bad landlords, you have no idea what a nightmare is until you are a landlord of a two or three family house and you get the tenant from hell who will do or say anything to live rent-free.

Mine was a personal friend (WAS is the operative word here) I had known since yeshiva ketana, who went from insurance fraud (as his main source of income) to killing my apartment while living rent-free, dragging out the eviction for three years without paying a penny of rent, causing me hundreds of thousands of dollars in unreimbursed damages he caused himself and then called the building dept, etc., (I had to take out two additional mortgages), and when he left he stole everything not nailed down (including all the major appliances) and broke or damaged everything he couldn’t steal.

New York City is so ridiculously pro-tenant, I never saw a dime back from him.
