New York, NY – Police say a single-engine plane hit the waters by Beach 56 Pl and the Ocean not far from John F. Kennedy Airport, but the all three aboard are safe.

It’s not clear what caused the plane to go down at about 7 p.m. Monday. Two passengers and the pilot were pulled from the wreckage by NYPD emergency crews. It’s not clear if they suffered injuries.

Police said the plane took off from Farmingdale, N.Y. on Long Island and was headed west. The destination was not immediately known. It was not believed to be headed for the airport.

NYPD harbor and aviation crews are on scene.
