FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt said in a statement Thursday that Hank Krakowski, the head of the agency’s Air Traffic Organization, has submitted his resignation. FAA’s chief counsel, David Grizzle, will temporarily take over Krakowski’s duties while the agency searches for a replacement.
Babbitt said he is conducting a “top to bottom” review of the FAA’s entire air traffic system. He said recent disclosures of “unprofessional conduct on the part of a few individuals” have rightly caused the traveling public to question the system
Why does he have to resign because of some sleepy controllers..he fired all those people..remember few months ago 2 MTA officers were caught sleeping on Washinton bridge patrol booth and were fired. The head of MTA didnt retire…
They needed somebody to send to Azazel 🙂
Seriously, the bad management decision was to staff towers with one employee on an overnight shift in order to save money. Pilots have copilots. Locomotive engineers have somebody in the other seat, Who leaves somebody alone with responsibility for air traffic, with no backup, no support, no help?
Whether the FAA chief fell on his sword because of the napping controllers, or whether the story of the napping controllers was leaked to impugn the FAA chief remains to be seen.
