Workers discovered minor fire damage when they arrived at Temple Israel Thursday morning. Police say a man in his late 20s broke into the temple, collected several items, placed them on a desk and set them on fire with a candle.

The suspect fled, but his image was captured on video. He is believed to be a transient who frequents the area.

LAPD officer Christopher No told the Los Angeles Times that the fire department, FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also investigating.

The incident comes after an explosive device was detonated near a Santa Monica synagogue last week. The suspect in that case has been charged with four felonies.
