“In response to disturbing indications that some police officers failed to appear or otherwise willfully undermined a case in court, we are creating a new Court Monitoring Unit within the Internal Affairs Bureau,” Kelly said at a budget hearing, during which he briefed the Council on other police matters.

Kelly told Council members that the department is “committed to ensuring integrity at every turn.”

“That’s why we’re bolstering IAB’s staff to give this new unit the resources it needs to pursue any sign of manipulation of the system,” he said.

If this is about justice, hats off. But, I suspect, there is a different motive here. Back to the Almighty Dollar, a la mayor Bloomberg. No, I’m not paranoid. I just watch him drool at the notion of balancing the city budget on the backs of New Yorkers who own and drive cars. And I neither like this, nor do I see it as worthy of respect. In all his years as Mayor, a few too many, he has never made a single gesture to welcome his own constituents to use the streets to drive and park cars. Sure, there are problems, but he tackles each and every one with the glee of “stick it to the car owners”, a childish, revengeful prank. Mayor: Shame on you. Grow up. You have managed businesses successfully for years, and have become one of the richest in the state of NY. Use some of that experience to benefit us, not to stick it to us.
