Police said Dawn R. Layfield, 43, was driving a 2008 Nissan Rogue southbound on Coastal Highway when she struck the rear of a Bash moped operated by 44-year-old Yoram Mosha from Key West, Fla. The force of the collision caused the moped to be projected forward as the victim was thrown into the hood of the Nissan. Layfield then stopped her vehicle, causing the victim to tumble onto the shoulder of the roadway.

Layfield, who was not injured in the crash, was taken into custody for one count each of 1st degree vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She was arraigned at JP Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correction Institution for lack of $7,500 cash bail.

With the help of Chesed Shel Emes, Yoram’s body is being transferred today for burial to Jerusalem.

This is a brightly lit four lane highway with a median strip and lots of commercial development along the way and average speeds are about 45 mph so she must have simply been driving fast and not focused on the road and overtaken the moped in front of her.

HY”D, not BDE. He was murdered, even though he did take a risk with a moped. Drunk driving is murder, and a drunk driver may well qualify as a rodef.
