The park drives are open to cars only during certain hours on weekdays — at precisely the time pedestrians and joggers say they use them for recreation.

According to The New York Times, city Transportation Department spokesman Seth Solomonow said no changes are planned at this time.

Taxi drivers oppose the ban, as do some area residents who say it would divert more traffic to their streets.

The park’s crosstown transverse roads would not be affected by the proposal.
