Washington – The Food and Drug Administration is warning the makers of melatonin-laced brownies called “Lazy Larry” that it considers them unsafe and could seize the snacks from store shelves.

“Lazy Larry” was until July known as “Lazy Cakes,” but the Memphis-based company that makes them, HBB LLC, changed the name after some public officials expressed concern about the brownies. They are sold in many convenience stores.

Last week the FDA sent the company a warning letter, which has been obtained by The Associated Press.

The FDA says it can seize the brownies if HBB continues to market them. The agency says it does not consider melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle, to be a safe food additive and that the brownies are “adulterated” because they contain the hormone.

The only reason that they even make them is because of the prohibition of marijuana, which is completely safe, as has been demonstrated in thousands of peer reviewed studies that have been published over the past 40 years!
    end prohibition!!!

Sometimes I take melatonin for insomnia. It’s safer than other sleep aids and has fewer side effects. I would be perfectly happy to eat a brownie instead of taking a pill.

Big deal!! Melatonin is a lot safer than Tylenol, cough medicine, sleeping pills, xanax, I could go on.

You have to be very careful of the amount of melatonin you take, even when prescribed!!

When I buy salt, sugar or chicken they are somewhat regulated. Melatonin is not regulated. This means that a company using lots of it will probably find the cheapest source. If it was made in any 3rd world country without Government supervision I would be concerned. This even includes India
It is the quality, not the idea of melatonin.
I also worry about someone taking it as a snack before a long drive.

For those of you comparing melatonin to marijuana, FYI melatonin is non addictive at all and safe to give even to children as per a few doctors recommendations. It helps a lot of people fall asleep every night. Every vitamin and drug should be taken following doctors orders and for those of you who don’t, that is your problem.

Your ‘PhD’ is meaningless in the face of literally thousands of studies that say otherwise….

    #6 ,

You’re incorrect. Marijuana has been shown in many, many studies to not only protect against cancer, but even to reverse it.
