The queen of Sweden's father helped at least one Jew escape Hitler's Germany, according to a report commissioned by Queen Silvia in response to media allegations about his Nazi past. The report, published Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011, said although Walther Sommerlath belonged to the NSDAP Nazi party, he appeared to have been an inactive member and had helped a Jewish businessman escape the Holocaust. Swedish media in 2002 reported Walther Sommerlath joined Germany’s Nazi party in 1934 and took over Efim Wechsler’s business under unclear circumstances in 1939.

World War II expert Erik Norberg says in the report that documents indicate Sommerlath exchanged his coffee plantation in Brazil for Wechsler’s company, helping him escape to South America in 1939.

Other researchers question the nobility of Sommerlath’s actions, suggesting he too gained from the deal.

The report published Tuesday says Sommerlath belonged to the NSDAP Nazi party but that he appeared to have been an inactive member.

So much for the fabrication of Swedish neutrality.

The Queen Silvia of Sweden was born in Brazil in 1943, she married into the Swedish royal family when she married Karl Gustav XVI of Sweden in 1976.

Karl Gustav’s grandfather Gustaf V was king during WWII, so please explain how the above story of Queen Silvia’s father changes or challenges Sweden neutrality during WWII?

Let’s not forget the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian Jews who were protected by the Swedish state during world war two. It is not a black/white issue.

Let’s also not forget the great things done by the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg on behalf of many of our people, members of my family included, during World War II.
