New York – National Republican figures are reluctant to spend big money on next month’s special election to replace Rep. Anthony Weiner, said party operatives who don’t see it as a competitive race.

The House GOP campaign arm has sent tens of thousands of dollars to the campaign of businessman Bob Turner—a pittance compared to the hundreds of thousands that it poured into a similar off-season congressional race earlier this year.
Despite recent polling showing Mr. Turner closing in on Democrat David Weprin, a Queens Assemblyman, influential Republicans say they are wary of the party’s history in New York, having lost three special elections in as many years here.
But Republicans have yet to be convinced, according to several people who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss reasons for not funding the race.
This might be another liberal tactic: NYT saying Republicans don’t believe Turner has a chance. Well, it seems Dems do because I am receiving phone calls and mail everyday attacking Turner…
I don’t understand why they would just give up instead of trying to advance conservative ideals. Eventually even the dumb lazy laydigayer NY’ers have to see the light …. we hope.
i predict weprin will win big and will continue to fight for the frum community even though we’ll probably stab him in the back. the first ones that will benefit from his win are the ones screaming gay marriage all day and when the republicans take away food stamps i wonder how all our yeshivasha yungeleit will be able to put food on the table
now you say we cant sell our souls for money —- lets see what happens then
It is true, the history of trying to elect a normal well adjusted man in the Soviet Socialist Republic of New York is not good. But we need not give up. The Berlin Wall did fall sooner than anybody expected.
We have not received a thing about either one of them!! Right now, both of them are in the running since I don’t know what either of them stand for!!
There may be another explanation. There is another special congressional election that same day, in Nevada’s second district. It is ordinarily heavily Republican — Bush got 57% both times and the former Republican incumbent, Dean Heller, who was appointed to the Senate seat of of the disgraceful John Ensign, was re-elected in 2010 by a 30% margin. But a recent poll showed only a one point difference between the Democrat and the Republican in upcoming special election! The Republicans have never lost NV-02 and they are desperate not to do so this year, so they are pouring hundreds of thousands into a low cost race. Losing NY-09 would not be as big a deal as the seat will likely disappear after the 2012 redistricting and the area hasn’t elected a Republican since 1920.
