Frankie Raymond, the president of the Tiferet Eyal synagogue in Queens Road, Hendon, said the marquee was not insured and would cost about £10,000 to replace. It also contained chairs, tables and cookers.
Mr Raymond, 59, said: “I feel devastated, completely devastated, by what has happened because we have worked very hard to build our synagogue up. We suspect it was arson.”
The synagogue opened three years ago in memory of Mr Raymond’s son, Eyal Raymond, who died, aged 29, in Israel in 2003.
Fire investigation officers are looking into the cause of the accident and are due to submit a report to the Metropolitan Police. [Hendon &
