The Associated Press-GfK poll finds that the messy debate has cost support for Congress, with public approval dropping to a new low of 12 percent. And people are warming to the idea of raising taxes, which most Republicans have refused to consider, just as both parties prepare for another struggle with deficit reduction.

The poll also found that only 29 percent view Republican House Speaker John Boehner favorably, the lowest of his speakership. Unfavorable views of the tea party have jumped 10 percentage points since November.

The Aug. 18-22 poll was conducted by telephone with 1,000 adults nationwide.

We elect, we the people. Look in the mirror for the real problem in Washington. The political clubs, the NIMBY attitude. We’ve seen the enemy and it is us. Washington is more of a club than ever before and we keep renewing the membership of these dolts. We allow the media to make our choices for us. Maybe we should change the electoral process to something more akin to American Idol.
