New Yorkers are transforming 30 metered parking spots around the five boroughs into green spaces, performance areas and outdoor classrooms.

The Friday event is part of a global effort called PARK(ing) Day, which raises awareness of the need for public space in urban areas.

Around the city, the meter spaces are being turned into things like mini-parks. In one space, theater students will be performing works from Shakespeare.

I think it’s time for a horse and buggy again.

Great! Now there are fewer spaces to park. Gee thanks. This only increases revenue for the greedy mayor because it forces people to park illegally. We need some better ideas that do not punish motorists.

This mayor is destroying our city! For those who want trees and greenery, move to the suburbs and enjoy your gardens. Perhaps they should move to a new “green” planet where they have only bikes and parks. what a chutzpa! The parking lots are the most expensive in the country so now there will be that many fewer on-street parking spaces.

guys- its for ONE day, and its 30 spots across the entire FIVE boros. This will most likely have NO effect on you at all.

The support for such a stupid idea must have come from those who don’t own cars. I don’t care if it’s for a day or for five minutes! There aren’t enough parking spots in the city to begin with. These nutcases should be forced to feed those meters or get ticketed.
