Israel – Rabbi Yohanan Hayut, director of El Al’s religious services division, issued a leaflet with strict instructions to Hasidic pilgrims flying to Ukraine for the High Holidays, following passengers’ inappropriate behavior on the airline’s planes in recent years – including smoking, refusing to put on their safety belts and destroying equipment.

El Al’s chief purser issued his own memo to the air crews, reminding them to thoroughly examine the credit cards used by the Hasidic pilgrims, not to leave their bags in the luggage compartments and to lock their cellular phones in the cockpit to avoid theft, which is said to be common on these flights.
The rabbi clarifies that passengers must not change seats during the flight, “protect the plane’s property and avoid damaging or destroying it,” and that smoking in or near the plane is strictly forbidden.
A senior El Al crewmember told Yedioth Ahronoth on Monday that every single steward tries to avoid serving on flights to Uman, which include male flight attendants only.
“People have no respect for the property and crew. They smoke freely during the flight and walk up and down the plane even when it’s forbidden. For many of them it’s the first time they fly, and they don’t know how to behave on a plane. In some incidents, they even got into real brawls with the crew.”
Just after rosh hashonah we already have these warnings? An observant jew has to actually be told not to destroy things and steal and smoke on an airplane?
Isn’t this basic stuff even if one is not Jewish?
Stop being them dan l’kaf zchus. They are “mishegoim. Translated NUTs. Cukoo, etc.
Let them try this behavior on an Aeroflot or Ukranian flight and see what happens. El Al should stop these flights.
I am sure that Reb Nachman takes great pride in these “chasidim” who create a chillul hashem.
I’m sure this behavior is exactly what rebbi nachman had in mind when he said people should come daven at his kever….unbelievable that people can be so crass and clueless, and right around rosh hashana of all times!!! I hope this is one misinformed or isolated incident. Otherwise what a chilul hashem.
Sounds like real fun to me. Whens the next flight, i.d like to go on one.
this whole uman thing is becoming a bigger chillul hashem every year what can we do to stop or slow this down?
They should have these wackos arrested. They make it look bad for many regular normal passengers.
I wonder why el al still provides flights to uman, if these alogations are indeed true. Can I smell some hatered from el al towards chareidim?
I know that many travelers to uman are drug adics and other low lives and are capable of such behavior but I doubt that el al would continue to fly there if this true.
What they should do is publicise what Rebbe Nachman ACTUALLY said: If you come to my grave AND PROMISE TO IMPROVE IN SOME WAY I will pull you out of Gehinnom. Many of the people who go are just in it cos, that’s what we do – I have news for you, it’s not what you do.

“El should should record the names of those involved in inappropriate behavior, and forbid them from ever traveling on El Al again. This policy should be explained to the passengers at the beginning of the flight, and passengers who don’t act like mentches should be warned on the return flight, that they will no longer be welcome on El Al.”
Return flight?
If they act up on the outgoing flight, then there should be no return flight for them!
If even one person smokes on the plane, declare an emergency and return to the origination airport. Arrest the offender if possible but even if not, do this a few times and everyone will get the message.
Even if a person is flying for te first time they should be taught about airline safety and be warned that if h smokes even in the bathroom he will be fined. airlines have the right to refuse passengers back on and demand payment for damage including ELAL.
How about issuing an order to not smoke at all? Smoking gives you cancer and kills you. So its clearly an issur dioraysuh. So an order needs to be issued that before you put on tefillin again, before you check your mezuzah, before you inspect the tip of your esrog, quit smoking. Until then, you are a hypocrite.
How are they smoking when cigerette liters are forbiden on flights? I think matches are too
