The court on Monday refused to hear an appeal from Orange County, Calif., officials, who were sued in 2007 by Souhair Khatib.

Khatib had gone to the Orange County Superior Court to ask for more time to complete her community service. But a judge ordered her jailed, and jailers forced Khatib to remove her head scarf.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected arguments that holding cells aren’t covered by a federal law protecting the religious practices of prisoners. It also ruled Khatib had the right to wear the scarf unless jailers could show it was a security risk.

The case was Orange County, Calif., v. Souhair Khatib, 10-1505.

More & more modest women are being humiliated & made to remove their headscarves and\or facial & head coverings. It’s totally disgraceful, and I don’t care *what* religion the woman in question belongs to!

Most women everywhere should feel violated & outraged that this keeps happening all over the globe, but especially in supposedly “free” societies, such as America & Europe.

Today it’s just a head-scarf in jail… but pretty soon they won’t be allowed in certain public places at all!

And all this in the name of “safety”… but at what cost??

In 1977, there was the case of Dr. Simcha Goldman; the the U.S. Air Force made a Jewish Air Force Captain remove his Yarmulke. As a result, Congress passed “the Yarmulke bill”, which authorized observant Jewish service personnel to wear their yarmulkes.

Jews of all shades religious observance should support this litigant’s cause.

Today it was a Muslim woman in southern California. If people of all religions do not take a stand against the forcible removal of the woman’s headscarf tomorrow it will be a Jewish man being forced to remove his kippah in New York c”v.
