If anyone can explain what “for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe through observations of distant supernovae.” Means then he will win the nobel prize for understanding something that no one else in the world understands…

They found that the light emitted by more than 50 distant supernovas was weaker than expected, a sign that the universe was expanding at an accelerating rate.

The discovery that this expansion is accelerating is astounding. If the expansion will continue to speed up the universe will end in ice.

An expanding universe suggests that there probably was some sort of beginning to this expansion, namely an explosion whenever the world was created like a big bang. Read ramban on parshas bereishis where he spells all this out. Pretty amazing that he knew all this so many years ago.

Robert Frost told us that, “Some say the world will end in fire; some say in ice.” I guess now we know who was right.

Anyone remember why Hashem’s name is Shakai? Because when he created the “olam” (which includes sky and earth, if you look in the sugya) it was expanding. Untill Hashem yelled “Dai”. chagiga 12a. Does the discovery fit with this or bring questions? What do you say? We’d like to know.
