The Center for Working Families, saying it obtained the 2008 tax return information from the Department of Taxation and Finance, says 93 percent were living in or near New York City, with nearly 14,000 in Manhattan, almost 6,700 in Westchester and Putnam counties and some 6,600 on Long Island.
The group, which says the state stands to lose $5 billion annually, notes relatively few millionaires in most regions represented by Republican senators who oppose Assembly-backed legislation to extend the tax surcharge after this year.
Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo also opposes continuing the tax.
Maybe OWS can protest at all 33,000 homes.
