It’s the latest step by the extremely pious Jews to try to force their practices on others.

Israel’s Channel 2 TV video showed the men screaming at a few dozen women, demanding that they leave a voting station Wednesday. Then the men pushed them away.

The incident happened soon after Jerusalem’s secular mayor, Nir Barkat, left the station after speaking out against gender discrimination.

Recently Israel’s ultra-Orthodox minority have become more active in trying to impose gender segregation beyond their communities. Women have been forced to the back of some buses that serve their neighborhoods.

The vast majority of Israel’s Jews object to such measures.

First of all, I resent the term “extremely pious” used when describing these people. Secondly, were hours established for segregated voting, so that all citizens were afforded their rights, while local “mores” were respected, or were these women essentially denied access altogether?

I never heard of any Haredi posek who say women can’t vote. In Chutz l’Aretz, Satmar women vote. However, Rabbi A.I. Kook paskened that it is not tznius for women to vote, so really Modern Orthodox and Religious Zionist women should not vote because their big “rebbe” said it’s assur.

Arn’t these people allegedly “learning”? why do they have time for this ? Force them to join the workforce by cutting off their government stipends, and you’ll see how quickly his nonsense will end!

There are a few dozen of these “Zealots” and the media just can’t stop talking about it. It has come to a point where there are on VIN at least two of such articles every day. It’s really crazy that all the Chareidim get bashed day by day because of some “zealots” who speak for no one but themselves. Can’t the media differentiate between the vast majority and the “zealots”? I don’t see multiple articles every day against the Palestinians even though their troublemakers KILL people every day.

The media keep harping on this type of criminal behavior aftr Mrs. Clinton’s remarks and to instill in the general public the impression that Judaism oppresses women just as much as Islam does. A broader worldview wouldn’t hurt these guys. Also, if they want to fight for something. let them join the army after serving a prison sentence. Apparently, they are done learning and have free time on their hands.

If these guys are so pious, how can they touch these women to push them?

I hate when they call these people ultra orthodox. I would call them ultra crazy. I am a chassidishe woman, and stories like this, of a very small minority, do not really describe the real ultra-orthodox.
