“To us, our families are more important,” said community activist Yona Lunger.  “A lot of them are getting concealed weapons permits… We don’t have a choice.”

Lunger’s community, near Golden Glades interchange, collects and distributes clothes for needy people. Most of the clothing is specifically for Orthodox Jewish women.

On Wednesday morning somebody went into the collection room, located inside a woman’s home, and stole bags filled with donated clothes.

“Close to 600 to 700 items are gone, I mean they cleaned us out,” said Lunger.

Police are well aware of the incidents and have increased their presence in the area. Several families are footing the bill for private security patrols.

Who would want to steal old clothes meant for poor frumm women, which by definition, are not going to be cutting edge designer dresses and sportswear.

Quite untrue, the gemach that was robbed had no connection to the attempted robbery on lunger’s house.

#2 I have organized concealed weapons courses, the response is ok but the stigma of carrying concealed still exists

So why live in bad neighborhoods? Just because it is inexpensive to live there doesn’t mean it’s a healthy location for a community, especially sending kids to school where there is such crime and danger!

    #6 ,
Nmb is not a bad ‘hood, but has been hit with crime. There are ways to reduce it like cutting off streets etc but nmb is half nmb city and half unincorporated dade county so its hard to get things done

The gun laws down here are way easier on the honest citizen than they are up in the hell hole of NYC, just try to get a carry permit up there.

#7 , it has been historically not a good neighborhood. Living in a enclosed gated environment is not a healthy solution either, ghetto mentality. A good community is safe with our gates and security, you should feel safe to walk around and everything you need should be within walking distance
