The theft of any object from any house of worship is horrible….the theft of the Sefer Torah is an assult on the Jewish community and an assault on decent people period. The best to hope for now is for it’s speedy and safe recovery and the apprehension of the low lifes that stole it. The legal system must make sure that these crimes are punished severly.

Oh my goodness! Sefer Torahs are so expensive to make! But the value of them to the congregation that paid for it & housed it… is priceless!

Who could do such a horrible thing?! Does your average person off the street (namely gentiles) know how expensive & valuable these things are?! I’m surprised your average person wouldn’t just try to take money out of the office, or steal gold-plated “whatevers” from the Shul! But a Sefer Torah?!

Then again… I cannot fathom a Jewish soul doing such a horrific thing. I really can’t. That’s the only reason I’m wondering if perhaps some stranger off the street broke in to steal it… and not somebody from the “inside”. At least, that’s what I pray anyway!

i’m sure that most non-jewish folks know a sefer torah is expensive too.
i work with a latino woman who lives in boro park and she has always commented about the fan fare she sees when a new sefer torah is being brought to a shule with the parade etc.
dont forget about the silver crown etc.

Its really unfortunate that this torah is missing. This is the third or fourth case this year of missing seforim or fires in shuls with seforim destroyed. Its time to consider more secure ways of storing seforim when no in use.

The Aron should be locked when not in use. Shule can have an alarm with a code the mispallalim know.
